Josh Gad‘s Spaceballs 2 has revealed its first official poster. The Star Wars parody movie also features veteran star Mel Brooks alongside Lewis Pullman and more.
What do we see in the Spaceballs 2 poster?
The first teaser poster for Spaceballs 2 confirms that the film is the long-awaited sequel to the Star Wars parody franchise. The description for the movie poster reads, “We combed the desert and found the new teaser poster!”
The upcoming installment, titled Spaceballs: The New One, will arrive 40 years after the first movie, 1987’s Spaceballs.
The official synopsis for Spaceballs: The New One reads, “Somehow, Dark Helmet has returned! Forty years after the events of the first Spaceballs, fifty years after the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, and one year after the events of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the galaxy is once again under threat. A threat so evil, so unstoppable, so completely lacking in any original ideas, that it has vowed to bring back the past… every last bit of it.”
Besides Brooks, Spaceballs 2 also stars Josh Gad, who serves as a writer and producer, along with Rick Moranis, Keke Palmer, and Anthony Carrigan. George Wyner, Daphne Zuniga, and Bill Pullman will also play crucial roles.
Helmed by Josh Greenbaum, Spaceballs 2 is based on the characters created by Mel Brooks, Thomas Meehan, and Ronny Graham.
When the first Spaceballs came out in 1987, it didn’t resonate much with critics. However, moviegoers admired it very much. This is reflected in its solid Popcornmeter score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also performed modestly at the box office. The film made over $38 million against a budget of $22.7 million.
Brian Grazer is producing Spaceballs 2 alongside Jeb Brody, Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, Josh Greenbaum, and Kevin Salter. Adam Merims, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez are serving as the executive producers.
Spaceballs: The New One will hit theaters in 2027. An exact date has yet to be confirmed.
