Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh Race to Stop the Cold War in Mayday Trailer

Apple TV has shared the official trailer for Mayday. The upcoming action-packed buddy comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh is scheduled to start streaming on September 4, 2026.

“When hot-shot U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy ‘Assassin’ Kelly is sent on a top-secret mission into Russian territory at the height of the Cold War, the operation implodes, leaving him stranded behind enemy lines,” reads the official synopsis. “Discovered by Nikolai Ustinov, a gruff ex-KGB agent with a penchant for American culture, Troy thinks he’s toast – but could an unlikely alliance between the two lead to Troy’s rescue, and a bond neither saw coming?”

What do we see in the Mayday trailer?

The video introduces Reynolds as a Navy pilot during the Cold War, whose secret mission gets suddenly derailed when his plane is shot down. This leads him to meet an ex-KGB agent who’ll help him find his way out of the enemy territory. The trailer highlights the action-packed challenges that this unlikely duo will face along the way, including escaping the Red Army.

Mayday is written, directed, and produced by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Game Night). The movie also stars Marcin Doroncinski, Maria Bakalova, and David Morse. It is produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger through Skydance Media alongside Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau through Maximum Effort. In addition to starring, Reynolds is also serving as an executive producer along with George Dewey and John G. Scotti.
