‘The Brave One’ What’s In a Name?

I heard that Jodie Foster has gone on record not liking the title of her recently released film The Brave One and that she doesn’t even particularly know what it means. Jeffrey Wells at Hollywood-Elsewhere points out that the Swedes don’t like it much either as the film will be released under the title The Stranger Inside over there. This is certainly a better title since I don’t see how The Brave One properly represents a woman who along with her fiance gets beaten, her fiance dies, the thugs steal her dog and she ends up going on a killing spree. Sure, you have to be brave to pull that off, but you also have to be nuts.

So, what should it be called? The greatest suggestion from the comments at Hollywood-Elsewhere has to be “CHICK WITH A GLOCK”, that title would have been priceless and it would have made the ridiculous plotline fun as opposed to… well… ridiculous.

I am not much of a film marketer, but pretty much anything would have been better for this silly movie. How about Vigilante, Getting Away with Murder or New York is Full of Bad People? All of these options describe the film much better than The Brave One.

Then again, I guess since the movie is probably going to be in theaters for three weeks it doesn’t really matter. Less than 50% at RottenTomatoes and overall bad buzz never helps a film’s longterm chances.
