Dan Stevens‘ 2014 action-horror classic, The Guest, is getting an unexpected spin-off with a new movie from A24. Many have wondered whether the upcoming A24 project has any connection to the 2014 thriller after seeing its trailer. New statements from the movie’s panel at SDCC revealed that they are connected.
What is the unexpected spin-off to Dan Stevens’ The Guest?
As per Empire Online, during A24’s SDCC panel, director Adam Wingard confirmed that his upcoming horror-action film Onslaught is connected to The Guest, both featuring Dan Stevens. However, the connection is not like many fans have expected.
Like The Guest, the new movie is directed by Adam Wingard from a story by Simon Barrett and stars Dan Stevens. The plots also line up, as they center on dangerous government-created super soldiers who are impossible to kill. This led many fans to believe that Onslaught was a direct sequel.
However, Stevens explained that the connection is more complicated. “It is a spiritual sequel,” Stevens said. “That said, it lives in the same universe.”
Furthermore, Wingard called the movie his third and final chapter in a trilogy that started with You’re Next, followed by The Guest. While the movie’s story is set in the same town as The Guest, Stevens is not reprising his role as David. Instead, Adria Arjona takes the lead as a former Army sniper protecting her family, with Stevens portraying a mysterious scientist involved in the super-soldier program.
Wingard also shared why he wanted to make Onslaught after spending years directing blockbuster MonsterVerse movies. “I’ve been making all these big movies for so many years, and what do I want to do? I want to make a film where, spoiler alert, Dan Stevens licks people’s feet.”
Apart from Dan Stevens, the film stars Adria Arjona, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Drew Starkey, Rebecca Hall, and Maurice Greene.
Onslaught arrives in US theaters on September 4, 2026.
