The next Joker has officially been cast, and he comes from House of the Dragon. A popular star from the HBO fantasy series is set to bring the Clown Prince of Crime to life in a new Batman project.
House of the Dragon star cast in Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 as the Joker
Matthew Needham has landed the role of the Joker in Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2, according to Deadline. The actor, known for his work on House of the Dragon, now joins a celebrated roster of talent behind the villain. Furthermore, Prime Video shared the casting announcement during San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday.
As a result, the creative team behind the animated series screened the Season 2 premiere episode at the event. Producers James Tucker and Geoffrey Thorne sat alongside voice stars Hamish Linklater and Jamie Chung for a conversation on stage. Notably, Needham himself attended the panel to confirm his involvement in the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Amazon Luna debuted a trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader Chronicles during the same presentation. Both the game and Season 2 share a July 31 launch date on their respective platforms. In addition, Needham will also voice the Clown Prince of Crime in the game with Linklater and Michelle C. Bonilla.
Essentially, the animated noir series centers on Bruce Wayne during his formative years fighting crime in Gotham. Billionaire Wayne transforms into something beyond human as he wages a relentless war against criminals each night. Moreover, J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm serve as the executive producers steering the show’s creative direction.
Warner Bros. Animation produces the series alongside DC Studios, Bad Robot Productions, and 6th & Idaho. Similarly, additional executive producers include Sarah Geismer, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register on the project. The show draws from DC characters to deliver a fresh take on the beloved mythology.
Returning voice talent includes Eric Morgan Stuart, Krystal Joy Brown, Gary Anthony Williams, and Jason Watkins. Likewise, Wunmi Mosaku, Grey DeLisle, John DiMaggio, and Tom Kenny round out the ensemble cast as well.
Ultimately, Season 2 drops as a full binge release on Friday, July 31 in over 240 countries and territories.
