While that marked a slight 2% dip from Wednesday ($18 million), it was still enough to make it the biggest Thursday of 2026 so far. It surpassed Toy Story 5, which previously held the record with $12.6 million.
The milestone is notably significant for Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan. It marks the biggest Thursday of his career, outdoing his previous releases. Interestingly, the movie also holds the record for the biggest Thursday night opening with its preview screenings. Earlier this week, The Odyssey also set another personal record for Nolan. It earned $21.4 million on Tuesday, beating The Dark Knight’s longstanding Tuesday record of $20.9 million from 2008.
The strong weekday performances are building the momentum for another big weekend for The Odyssey. It’s projected to make between $61 and $74 million in its second week domestically. If it reaches a higher number, it could beat The Dark Knight‘s second weekend collection of $75.1 million, which also remains the biggest in his career.
