Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey just had the kind of week at the box office that most films only dream about. The epic film shattered multiple weekday records, rewriting domestic box office history in its opening week.
The Odyssey creates new Monday and Tuesday box office records
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey shattered weekday box office records at the domestic box office, Deadline reported. The Universal film earned $18.67M on Monday, marking the best Monday of 2026. It then followed with a $21.4M Tuesday, securing Nolan’s best Tuesday ever at the domestic box office.
On Monday, the figure surpassed Toy Story 5’s previous 2026 high of $17.3M on June 22. It also topped Oppenheimer’s first Monday of $12.67M by a significant margin. Among Universal’s all-time best Mondays, The Odyssey now ranks fifth behind Jurassic World ($25.3M), Super Mario Bros ($20.1M), Sing ($19.67M) and Fast & Furious 6 ($19.66M).
Meanwhile, Tuesday’s $21.4M result surpassed The Dark Knight’s previous Nolan Tuesday record of $20.8M from July 2008. The figure ranks as the second best Tuesday of 2026 behind Toy Story 5’s $23.69M. It also stands as Universal’s second best Tuesday ever behind Jurassic World’s $24.3M on June 16, 2015.
As a result, the film’s running domestic total through four days stands at $141M, roughly 48% higher than Oppenheimer over its Friday-to-Monday span. Globally, The Odyssey debuted at $263.7M, the best worldwide opening of Nolan’s career. Additionally, IMAX screens across Los Angeles and New York remain near sellouts throughout evening showtimes.
Looking ahead, The Odyssey will hold all IMAX and PLF screens in its second weekend. Projections currently place the second frame between $61.8M and $74M, a 40% to 50% decline. That range could see the film matching or surpassing the sophomore frames of Nolan’s Dark Knight films, with The Dark Knight holding $75.1M and The Dark Knight Rises earning $62.1M in their respective second weekends.
