Zack Snyder has shared an epic new look at Ben Affleck’s Batman from the 2016 feature Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The short clip is a homage to the iconic 1986 graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns and its writer and penciller Frank Miller.

Snyder took to Instagram to share a new photo with Miller. As part of the post, Snyder also shared a short clip that shows the transition from Miller’s panels to Snyder’s adaptation in Dawn of Justice.
“An unforgettable night with the legend himself, @frankmillerofficial,” Snyder wrote in the caption. “Frank Miller’s mastery has shaped so much of modern storytelling — from The Dark Knight Returns to Sin City and beyond. Don’t miss his powerful new book, Push the Wall: My Life, Writing, Drawing, and the Art of Storytelling. A masterclass in creativity from one of the all-time greats.”
The Watchmen director added, “Highly recommended. Pick it up now!”
Notably, Snyder directed Dawn of Justice from a script by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer. The movie marked Affleck’s debut as Bruce Wayne / Batman. The cast also included Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, and Jeremy Irons as Alfred. Serving as a follow-up to 2013’s Man of Steel, the movie made over $874 million against a production budget of $250 million (via Box Office Mojo). However, it currently has an abysmal 28% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Dawn of Justice and associated movies and projects were part of the DCEU (DC Extended Universe). After the franchise’s overall performance didn’t meet expectations, Warner Bros. gave it a soft reboot with the launch of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe (DCU).
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is currently available for streaming on HBO Max and other platforms.
