Just one month after confirming his interest in making Jason Bourne 6, Matt Damon has shared another promising update on the long-awaited project. While promoting The Odyssey during a recent interview, the Academy Award winner named the filmmaker he has been working with to develop the next Jason Bourne movie before revealing what fans can expect from it.
Matt Damon gives more context on Jason Bourne 6 possibility
In a recent interview with ESPN’s Rich Eisen, Damon reaffirmed his interest in making another Jason Bourne movie.
When asked if he was “still in the idea of playing Jason Bourne,” the 55-year-old actor simply replied, “Sure, yeah.”
He continued, “I’m talking to – there’s a great director named Ed Berger. He did All Quiet on the Western Front. He’s a wonderful director and we’re talking about it. We’re just trying to figure out. We’re trying to nail the story down. Because I’d love to do it. It’s just that thing where, you know, if we do it, we want it to be like the first three.”
Damon then explained that even though the Jason Bourne series shared several similarities with the James Bond franchise, it was tougher to ideate a sequel for the former.
“It’s not built like a James Bond where every movie is its own mission, right?… People can even change the character, you know, the person playing Bond. It’s a linear story. Makes it more challenging to do a sequel where you’re giving people what they want, but also enough new stuff that you know what I mean. It’s a tricky one,” Damon said about Jason Bourne 6.
The Odyssey star also added that they “have a line of sight on how” Jason Bourne will deal with the past catching up to him in part 6.
Aside from Damon’s updates, the long-awaited sequel has not received any official confirmation from Universal. As such, Jason Bourne 6 does not have a release date window at the time of writing.
