New set photos from Disney’s upcoming Tangled remake have given fans a first look at its iconic characters in live-action. Similar to Disney’s recent live-action remakes, Tangled will retell the story of the animated Rapunzel adaptation. The movie is currently filming in Spain, allowing fans to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse at its many new elements.
What do we see in the Tangled set photos?
The latest set photos from the Tangled set offer a first look at the live-action Flynn Rider, played by Milo Manheim, and Rapunzel, played by Teagan Croft. The photos highlight both the similarities and the subtle differences between the characters’ appearances in the two films.
Most of Rapunzel’s magical hair-related antics will likely be shown off with CGI. However, the photos show Croft wearing a large blonde wig that falls to her knees, which will likely be used in regular dialogue scenes. Her dress also has a deeper shade of purple than the lighter shade Rapunzel wore in the animated film.
Meanwhile, Milo Manheim’s Flynn Rider is seen wearing the character’s recognizable XYZ. He is also sporting a mustache, a new addition for the character. The animated version had a cleaner look, with Manheim’s version having greasy-looking hair. Of course, it should be noted that set photos don’t always represent the characters in the best light.
The film has already frustrated fans over its use of colors in the kingdom’s insignia and tapestries. Earlier this year, the original film’s co-director revealed the reason behind Tangled 2’s cancellation. Fans of the franchise can look forward to Loungefly’s new Tangled collection.
The live-action Tangled remake cast includes Teagan Croft, Milo Manheim, Kathryn Hahn, Diego Luna, and more. Michael Gracey is directing the film from a script written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor.
The Tangled remake does not currently have an official release date.
