Robert Englund is ready to reprise his famous role as Freddy Krueger on one condition. He talked about his latest animated movie in a recent interview and also shared his views on the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.
What did Robert Englund say about returning to the Freddy Krueger role?
In a recent interview with ComingSoon for the 40th anniversary of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Robert Englund spoke about the franchise’s reboot, stating, “Well, I keep hearing all kinds of things. I’ve heard about an animated project, and I’ve heard other ideas.”
When asked whether he would like to voice Freddy in the animated project, he said, “Yeah, that would be fun.”
He further added, “I sure would. That’s easy for me. I’m an old dog now. I can start and end stunts, but I can’t do them and repeat them anymore. I can’t snap my head from every different angle.” He agreed to return as the nightmare monster as a voice actor if the animation ever happens.
In comments about the reboot, he also mentioned that he wishes they would not remake the first film. Instead, he thinks that they should start their reboot with part 3, stating, “Dream Warriors is actually the most successful and most popular film in the franchise.”

He also praised the opening of the third instalment, which sums up the previous films well. He added, “I think that might be an interesting way to get into any kind of revival of the franchise.”
Englund recently voiced the character of Cricket in Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s Pinocchio Unstrung. This movie is a chilling reimagining of the familiar fable, unfolding inside an elite London prep school as Pinocchio is influenced by a sinister Cricket and launches a violent crusade to carve himself into a real boy like his brother James, one piece at a time.
Pinocchio Unstrung will be released in theaters on July 24, 2026.
