Top Story 5 explores Jessie’s backstory in new clip
Disney StudiosJ_A released a new clip on X (formerly Twitter) from Toy Story 5. It reveals the face of Jessie’s original owner, Emily. The footage depicts a brief flashback of them playing together before cutting to the heartbreaking scene where the latter abandons the toy in a donation box. She then heads to some other place in a car.
The video then shows a montage of Bonnie playing with Jessie, the former putting the latter and other toys aside after receiving Lilypad, the group struggling to cope with their new reality, and resolving to regain Bonnie’s attention.
Emily and Jessie’s former bond was previously highlighted in a Toy Story 2 flashback. It is shown when the latter tries to convince Woody of the possibility of Andy outgrowing and abandoning him.
Later, in Toy Story 3, Jessie mentions Emily again when she believes Andy abandoned her and the other toys. This is after his mother mistakenly throws them in the garbage instead of storing them in the attic, as intended. She remarks that she should have anticipated this, saying, “It’s Emily all over again!”
Moreover, her experience of being abandoned by Emily influences her decision to have herself and the others donated to Sunnyside Daycare against Woody’s wishes. However, Jessie later realizes her error after Andy proves his care by frantically searching for them.
Meanwhile, Toy Story 5 heads into theaters on June 19, 2026. Andrew Stanton directed it.
“The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5,’ and this time it’s Toy meets Tech,” the official synopsis reads. “Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to what kids are obsessed with today….electronics!”
The voice cast includes Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Keanu Reeves, and Greta Lee, among others.
