Jason Momoa Built Aquaman Off Slash, Is Getting a Trident

Jason Momoa‘s take on Aquaman for the DC Extended Universe is based on the iconic guitarist Slash, according to the actor.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Momoa dove into his role as Aquaman, which saw the actor portray the character in a way that was much more “rock and roll star” than how the superhero had been portrayed in comics prior.

One big reason for that, Momoa says, is his love of Slash — the iconic guitarist for Guns N’ Roses.

Momoa connected with Slash following his role as Aquaman

“Look at the first Justice League,” Momoa explained. “I’m like, ‘That’s Slash.’ I mean, how do you dress up like you’re playing Aquaman? I’m not going to put him in a polo and some khakis. He was just rocking. The way that Zack [Snyder] designed him [and] wanted him to be was that he was rock ‘n’ roll. He punched Superman in the face and kissed Wonder Woman. He didn’t care. Slash was so important in my life, and his music. And then I got to meet him.”

Momoa was also asked if he had taken anything from the set of the last Aquaman film, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The actor joked that he did, and then said that he had lent the production some clothing of his to use in the film, so in exchange, he took Aquaman’s infamous trident.

“So they give me the trident, but I should have the trident, right? I don’t actually have it, I just got a text from my producer going ‘It’ll be here tomorrow,’ so tomorrow I’ll have the trident.”
