Birth/Rebirth: Frankenstein Reimagining Heads to Theaters This Month

Laura Moss’s directorial debut Birth/Rebirth is coming to theaters later this month.

The film is a reimagining of the Frankenstein story that sees a pathologist named Rose, played by Marin Ireland (I Am Legend, The Empty Man), and nurse Celie, played by Judy Reyes (Smile, Bringing Out The Dead), bound together by the relationship they form after they bring Celie’s daughter back from the dead.

The movie charts just how far down a dark path the pair are willing to go to fuel their obsessions.

Birth/Rebirth Release Date

The Birth/Rebirth release date will be August 18, 2023, when it will open exclusively in theaters.

Ahead of that, AMC has arranged a pre-release rooftop screening in New York this Saturday with a Q&A session with Laura Moss afterward.

The movie received some favorable reviews at Sundance earlier this year, with praise for Ireland and Reyes’ performances and recognition for the fresh spin on Mary Shelley’s classic horror tale. Reimagining Frankenstein has long been a popular idea in Hollywood, but with this, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, and the rumored Bride of Frankenstein remake from Maggie Gyllenhaal swirling around alongside this, it’s a popular theme at the moment.
