Game of Thrones vet Lena Headey will officially be making her feature-length directorial debut with the psychological thriller film titled Violet, based on Susi Holliday’s 2019 novel of the same name. The Emmy nominee’s first venture into filmmaking had first started in 2019 when she directed and wrote a short film titled The Trap, which had earned a BAFTA nomination.
“Susi’s Violet is a compulsive page-turner that stayed with me long after I finished the book — it’s exciting that my first feature as a director will be such an intense female thriller,” Headey said in a statement via Deadline. “It’s a wild ride to the finish with vast cinematic scope, centering around two very complex women who will completely unravel over the course of the film. I can’t wait to get rolling.”

Violet will be written and produced by Gareth Pritchard through Sankara Pictures. The story is being likened to BBC One’s acclaimed drama Killing Eve, with also features some elements of The Talented Mr. Ripley and Single White Female.
The adaptation will center around two lone female travelers, who instantly bonded with each other, decided to pair up and board the Trans-Siberian Express together. However, as their journey continues, they’ll soon find out that neither of them is who they claim to be.

Violet will be produced by Mark Foligno (Moon) of Limelight CTL along with Ben Charles Edwards (Quant) and Phil McKenzie (Twist) of Goldfinch Entertainment. Meanwhile, Ed Boase and Marcus Stamps will be executive producing through their Dark Alliance Film banner.
Production is expected to begin later this year in October.
