Russos to produce Hemsworth-Haddish comedy Down Under Cover

Following the success of Avengers: Endgame, Deadline reports that the Russo brothers have signed on to produce the upcoming buddy cop comedy movie Down Under Cover, reuniting them with Chris Hemsworth who will star in the film alongside Tiffany Haddish.

Anthony and Joe Russo are no stranger to the comedy genre as they’ve already worked on Fox’s hit sitcom Arrested Development which had earned them an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. This film will be the brothers’ second non-MCU project with Hemsworth following on Netflix’s forthcoming action drama Dhaka.

Down Under Cover is compared to the likes of Rush Hour and The Heat and will follow an unlikely partnership between two completely different detectives. Its synopsis reads: “Hemsworth will play a detective who goes undercover to crack a series of baffling casino heists in which the prime suspects are a troupe of Australian male erotic dancers. He’s forced to take the partner no one else will — Haddish’s character, a lone wolf who does things only one way: hers. Together they have to work as an unlikely duo to solve the crime of their careers.”

The film will be produced by Hemsworth’s production company Thematic Entertainment with Haddish also set to serve as a producer.

Coming off from the record-breaking success of Avengers: Endgame, Hemsworth will next be seen in the forthcoming sci-fi action comedy Men in Black: International starring alongside fellow MCU co-star Tessa Thompson. The film will arrive in theaters on June 14.

Haddish is best known for her breakout role as Dina in the 2017 comedy film Girls’ Trip starring alongside Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Regina Hall. She recently starred in other comedy films such as: Night School opposite Kevin Hart; Ike Barinholtz’s The Oath; and in Tyler Perry’s romantic comedy Nobody’s Fool. Haddish will next be seen in the upcoming American crime drama The Kitchen along with Elisabeth Moss and Melissa McCarthy which is set to premiere on August 9.
