After the success of Vikram and Leo, director Lokesh Kanagaraj is gearing up for Thalaivar 171 with Rajinikanth.
Thalaivar 171 is expected to start production in April 2024 and release in 2025. The film stars superstar Rajinikanth as the lead, along with Raghava Lawrence, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Sivakarthikeyan. It is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and is touted to be one of the most anticipated films of Tamil Cinema.
As per recent reports, the filmmakers are looking to cast actors from across industries. Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is in talks for an extended cameo appearance in the action-packed thriller.
Thalaivar 171 cast: Ranveer Singh cameo could happen, claim reports
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has reportedly discussed the cameo with Ranveer Singh. The actor has shown keen interest in coming on board for the film. As per the source, “While Ranveer has heard the character, he is keen to hear the entire script before signing on for the film. Lokesh has also discussed the possibilities of a spin-off to the character if Thalaivar 171 succeeds.” The two will have another discussion regarding the role next year.
Earlier, Lokesh Kanagaraj wanted to have Shah Rukh Khan on board to play a key role in the film. A source stated, “Lokesh even met Shah Rukh Khan and gave him an overview of what he intends to make. While SRK loved the subject and has immense respect for Rajinikanth, he politely conveyed his decision not to feature in the film. After doing a series of appearances in films like Brahmastra, Rocketry, and Tiger 3, SRK wants to keep himself exclusive for standalone feature films.”
However, after politely rejecting the film, Shah Rukh Khan informed Lokesh Kanagaraj that he already has an extended appearance in his daughter, Suhana Khan’s theatrical debut, The King, and another short appearance might be too much. But the Bollywood superstar is open to doing a standalone solo film with the Tamil director.
