Sunny Deol‘s return to the big screen with the highly anticipated sequel, Gadar 2, turned out to be a commercial success. Directed by Anil Sharma and written by Shaktimaan Talwar, the period-action drama is produced by Zee Studios, Anil Sharma Productions, and MM Movies. A sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), it stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma, who reprised their roles. The film’s premise is set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 when Tara Singh returns to Pakistan to rescue his imprisoned son.
Gadar 2 was the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 and the seventh highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. The film was released on August 11, 2023, in theatres and was available to stream on ZEE5 from October 6, 2023.

Gadar 2 Ending: Was Tara able to rescue his son and return to India?
Gadar 2 opens with a flashback from the blockbuster prequel released in 2001. After the clip is over, Hamid Iqbaal, the major general of Pakistan threatening the Hindus to convert their religion, is introduced. Defying Iqbaal’s orders meant death for the said Hindus. He even gets Sakeena’s father executed but still remains unsatisfied with the revenge for the soldiers his country lost in the war. So, he plans to take revenge on Tara Singh.
The film then moves forward to the present, which is after 17 years of the original events in Gadar. An aged Tara Singh and Sakeena are seen living in India and enjoying their love and companionship with each other. They have a son, Jeete, who Tara believes is sweet, innocent, and stays away from trouble. However, soon after, Tara finds his son in the theatre where he is acting. He then informs his wife that their son has been skipping college for ten days.
So, for a better future for his son, he decides to send Jeete to study at a boarding school in Chandigarh, but Sakeena refuses. On the other hand, Jeete demands a bike from his father, but Tara refuses his request initially. However, he surprises his son on his birthday with his dream bike.
Major Iqbaal’s revenge
Tara then learns about the emerging India-Pakistan war as a result of the rising tensions. During an ongoing battle on the borders, he is instructed to deliver supplies to the soldiers. At that very moment, Major Iqbaal arrives at the border and sees Tara. He then orders his battalion to retreat.
After the team responsible for providing supplies to the soldiers returns, Tara’s family notices his absence. They start thinking that the Pakistani soldiers have imprisoned him. So, Jeete decides to go to Pakistan to rescue his father. However, he gets captured by Major Iqbaal and is tortured under his command as revenge. Tara manages to return to India with no harm and learns that his son went for his rescue.
Tara then hurriedly leaves with no plan whatsoever to save his son from the hands of Major Iqbaal. He takes help from his friends residing in Pakistan to rescue his son. After he arrives in Pakistan, he confronts Iqbaal before helping his son escape from a public execution. After the escape, the father-son duo reunite with the help of Muskaan’s family.
Did Tara rescue his son and return to India?
Towards the end of Gadar 2, Tara and Jeete spend time at Muskaan’s house with her family, but Jeete starts falling in love with her. On the other hand, in order to make Tara beg for mercy, Major Iqbaal captures Muskaan’s family and several soldiers from India.
He kills Muskaan’s brother and orders Tara to admit defeat before him with his son and Muskaan. Tara refuses to surrender and with the help of other Indian soldiers, he escapes with his son and Muskaan after a brutal fight with Iqbaal. But Iqbaal isn’t ready to give up on him and chases him until the two reach the Indian border.
This allows the Indian army to get a hold of Iqbaal and put him at gunpoint. However, Tara decides to spare his life, but Iqbaal attempts to end Tara’s life anyway. His actions get him gunned down by the Indian soldiers. At the end of Gadar 2, Tara and Jeete triumphantly return to India and reunite with Sakeena.
