Paramount Finds Director for a Sequel to The Ring

Those rumblings were renewed in 2011 when we caught up to the producers on the set of Takashi Shimizu’s 7500.

Little is known about the next installment. THR says Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing. Gutierrez grabbed everyone’s attention with Before the Fall. That film landed him the director’s seat on the forthcoming remake of The Crow which seems to be in development hell. (A year ago we spoke with the director who told us the film would begin shooting last fall.)

In 2012, Paramount head Adam Goodman stated he felt The Ring could lend itself to the found footage sub-genre. Again, we do not know if that’s the direction they’re going to take.

Since the release of The Ring 2 here in the States, the series has continued overseas with Sadako 3D and its sequel.

Is J-horror about to experience some resurgence? Possibly. Earlier this year, we reported that Jeff Buhler was tapped to write a reboot of The Grudge…  There’s definitely something in the air.
