Sleepaway Camp Next Horror Title to Get Rebooted, Original Film Gets Scream Factory Treatment

Friend of horror, Jeff Katz, has optioned the rights to the Sleepaway Camp series, writes Deadline.

What does he intend to do with it?  Reboot it, of course.  He will produce a new film with the original’s writer-director Robert Hiltzik, producer Michele Tatosian and actress Felissa Rose.

Katz used to be an exec over at New Line.

During his term there, he oversaw production on Freddy vs. Jason and Snakes on a Plane.  Later, Katz received story credit for the “Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash” comic book.

The original Sleepaway Camp debuted in ’83 and concerned a bullied teen who started killing off fellow campers.  The film kicked off a series of sequels.

Scream Factory announced today that a special edition of the original film is due next spring.
