It’s a significant story, for sure, since this is the first time these plans are being publicly discussed…but they’re nothing all that new. Allow us to weigh in.
A new SAW movie was being discussed immediately after the release of SAW 3D (naturally), just to give you a time frame. And yes, a “reboot” was a term bandied about. But the gears move slowly.
The producing team – tied up with various other projects – isn’t rushing into anything and I’ve been told they won’t move on a new film unless it “feels right” and a really good idea knocks them out.
It’s entirely possible B-D’s report is feeding off some new developments, but they do say a new SAW flick is in its “infancy” stage, which leads me to believe that it’s in the same place as it was when we first heard about it. But hey, at least you now know that the series isn’t truly finished.
My two cents? Do a sequel and a reboot. One that recognizes the first batch of films but paves the way for an entirely new group of characters and establishes a new “Jigsaw.”
