Hathaway spoke about Princess Diaries 3 last month while promoting her latest projects. She confirmed that the film remains an important project for her team, even though development has taken longer than expected. She shared that several factors have slowed progress, but work has continued.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Anne Hathaway earlier said her team is “constantly working on it.” She explained that The Devil Wears Prada 2 unexpectedly became the immediate priority.
In the meantime, on Andy Cohen’s live show, she again shared further plans for the film during a conversation with Cohen. When asked about the update on The Princess Diaries 3, she joked, “I’m busy making baby No. 3.” She explained that her personal commitments have also affected the production schedule.
However, Hathaway also shared encouraging news, revealing that the team recently had a “story breakthrough” after revising the script. She said the project is now “moving in the right direction.”
Disney first announced The Princess Diaries 3 in 2024, with Crazy Rich Asians writer Adele Lim as director. Hathaway has already confirmed she will return as Mia Thermopolis, the future queen of Genovia, first introduced in the 2001 film based on Meg Cabot’s novel.
Meanwhile, Julie Andrews and Chris Pine have not been confirmed to be a part of it, but Hathaway’s latest comments suggest the royal journey is far from over, even if fans will have to wait a little longer.
