Will Ferrell‘s new Netflix TV show fails to impress critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The comedy series presents the acclaimed actor in the role of an iconic but forgotten Golfer.
What are critics saying about Will Ferrell’s new TV show?
Will Ferrell’s latest TV show, The Hawk, was released on Netflix on July 16, 2026. At the time of this article’s publication, the show holds a poor 28% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on more than 30 reviews.
Most critics have panned The Hawk, highlighting that it’s hardly funny despite being a comedy series. Louis Chilton of Independent (UK) wrote, “Given how sparse the laughs are over the course of this run, and how thinly drawn the characters, it’s hard not to wonder if this would have been better crammed into a lean 90 minutes.”
Sourya Sur Roy of Digital Mafia Talkies wrote that Will Ferrell’s show “fails to be either a funny comedy that can be forgiven for being unrealistic, or a family drama that has strong characters driving the plot.” Ed Power of The Irish Times highlighted that The Hawk is “desperately ungainly, with an air of desperation that emanates from every scene like a haze of sweat.”

Ben Travers of IndieWire wrote that the TV show “isn’t unique enough to earn laughs just by being the odd man out, unless you think The Hawk is a unique nickname for a guy with the last name Hawkins.”
The Hawk features Ferrell in the role of Lonnie Hawkins, the number one golfer from 2004, who is now struggling to recreate the magic he once had in his career. Besides Ferrell, the cast also includes Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver, and David Hornsby.
The Hawk was created by Ferrell, who is also the executive producer alongside Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor. Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Nena Rodriguez, and Andy Campagna are also serving as the executive producers.
The Hawk TV series is now streaming on Netflix.
