Stephen King’s The Reach Is Getting An Adaptation

Can you believe there is still more Stephen King material out there to mine for film?  The Hollywood Reporter says today that the Skeleton Crew tale, “The Reach,” is getting the adaptation treatment.

DownEast Village Productions and Park Entertainment is spearheading the effort and the project is currently out to directors.

In the story, Stella Flanders, the oldest resident of Goat Island, just celebrated her 95th birthday. She has never crossed the reach, the body of water that separates the Island from the Maine coastline, in her entire life.  The Reach chronicles her arduous journey when the water ices over.  There, she encounters apparitions of the dead of Goat Island.

The story was originally published in Yankee in 1981 before appearing in Skeleton Crew.
