Kelly Thiebaud addresses Steve Burton’s hiatus from General Hospital

At the State of Mind podcast, Kelly Thiebaud, who plays Britt, talked about Steve Burton’s break from General Hospital. She stated, “I was shocked when I found out. I was very shocked. So, I confronted Steve about it.” However, her co-star ended up sharing “his reasons” with her. Burton went on a hiatus to spend time with his family as he was newly married. Thiebaud, who has taken her share of exits, understood his reasons.

“I know what that feels like,” the 43-year-old said. However, she added, “But the other side of that is I feel let down, you know? So I thought we had time together, and it’s just been really hard. It’s been really hard.” She continued, “He has more important things in his life. I completely understand that. But it’s … I’m sad. I’m sad that he’s going.”

Host Maurice Bernard also shared that Burton’s hiatus seemed “abrupt.” Nevertheless, the actor who essays the role of Sonny on the show stated, “We have to just let Steve be Steve.”

Thiebaud said, “He’s got to go live his life, and I wish him nothing but the best, I really do.” She added, “I love Steve, and I will miss him terribly, but again, I understand. You gotta go when you feel the need to go.”

Meanwhile, Burton spoke in detail about his temporary exit on his That’s Awesome podcast. “Everybody knows we’re grateful. The opportunity’s amazing,” he said. Burton continued, “But in life … life is more important than anything else.”

He also stated how the passing of James Van Der Beek impacted him.”I had a couple of executive producers who said once, ‘Hey, family and life is way more important than any show that you’re ever gonna do,’ right?” Burton said. “And that really hits home after the passing of James Van Der Beek,” he added.
