The Odyssey Star John Leguizamo Gives Christopher Nolan the Ultimate Compliment

The Odyssey star John Leguizamo gives Christopher Nolan one of the best compliments any director could receive. The comment comes as the epic fantasy action film gears up for a release this month.

John Leguizamo calls Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey his ‘magnum opus’

John Leguizamo spoke about The Odyssey with Variety on the red carpet at its world premiere in London. He said, “I felt like this was [Christopher Nolan’s] magnum opus.”

Further, talking about the filmmaker, the John Wick actor stated, “He is a modern-day Homer, the modern-day innovator. He’s a visionary, like a prophet.” “I have to say that working with him, I feel like I’ve done the best work of my life in acting. You know, I’ve always had a very hard time being really emotional on film, and this time he created such a sanctuary and such a safe space for me to be able to be that vulnerable,” he added.

Leguizamo will be seen as Eumaeus, Odysseus’ loyal friend and swineherd. The film follows the legendary king of Ithaca as he embarks on an arduous and perilous journey back to his wife Penelope after the decade-long Trojan War. It will also chronicle his encounters with mythical creatures like the cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens, and the nymph Calypso.

Matt Damon stars as Odysseus in the upcoming film. Other members of the ensemble cast include Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous. Further, Lupita Nyong’o stars in a dual role as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, Zendaya as Athena, Charlize Theron as Calypso, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, and Travis Scott as a bard, among others.

Made on an estimated budget of $250 million, The Odyssey is among the most expensive films in Nolan’s career. The fantasy action flick is produced by Universal Pictures.

It opens in theaters on July 17, 2026.
