Apple TV+’s The Last Frontier, Episode 2‘s intense plot has set expectations and pace for the rest of the season. Within the dual-episode premiere, the show has managed to pique viewers’ interest. Especially with the curiosity behind Havlock’s determination to attain the flight deck recorder. So, what really is on that recorder?
Why is Havlock interested in the flight deck recorder in The Last Frontier Episode 2?
In The Last Frontier Episode 2, “Wind of Change”, Havlock wants the flight deck recorder to find the true cause of their plane crash. Throughout the episode, Havlock has been misleading Frank. He demanded that he bring in Henry Dale Sicker, another inmate on the flight, in exchange for Sarah, Frank’s wife. However, his true intention is to get his hands on the recorder’s chip as it contains details about incidents leading to the crash.
When Frank confronts Henry, he denies knowing Havlock at all and is not sure what he wants from him. CIA agent Sydney believes that Havlock is trying to sell the recorder. Henry can help with that, given his money laundering background for highly wealthy people in the past. Later, Franks discovers that Henry has struck a deal with the DOJ to enter witness protection, and showcases no interest in going to Havlock.
While it took him too long, Frank finally realizes that Havlock has been stalling all this time. He understands that his motive was only to get his hand on the recorder and was not interested in Henry. It becomes more apparent when he learns that Havlock hijacked a van to acquire the chip while keeping all the hostages alive. It showcases that he’s not going to kill anyone for the sport.
Furthermore, it’s also revealed that Havlock and Sydney share a history. After he had stolen Archive 6, files containing sensitive information about an illegal CIA operation, Sydney tried to lure him using a fake identity. This could also be one of the reasons why she’s assisting Frank with fulfilling Havlock’s demands by capturing Henry.
