Peacock Not Free Anymore: Why Did My Account Change to Premium?

Those who enjoyed free Peacock up until June 26, 2023, will be disappointed to learn that the service is not free anymore. For those wondering what happened to the free tier, “Why did my account change to Premium?”, or why Peacock Premium is no longer included with Xfinity, you can get the full details in this guide below.

Why is Peacock not free anymore?

Peacock is no longer free because the free tier has been phased out and because NBCUniversal no longer wishes to include it with Xfinity.

Peacock’s free tier has been removed, with the only choices being paid-for Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus.

What’s more, since it launched in 2020, Xfinity subscribers have been permitted access to Peacock Premium content at no additional cost. What would have been a $4.99 subscription was reduced to $0. However, that deal has now come to an end, forcing Xfinity customers to choose a new plan.

For Xfinity customers with gigabit speeds, you can get Peacock Premium at no additional cost for two years. For Xfinity Diamond or Platinum Rewards Members, you can redeem rewards to receive Peacock Premium at no additional cost. For those ineligible for the above offers, you can sign up for Peacock Premium between June 26 and August 25 at a discounted rate of $2.99 per month for 12 months.

Alternatively, Now TV customers can receive Peacock Premium included in that service.

Why is Peacock Premium not included with Xfinity anymore?

Peacock Premium is not included with Xfinity because “that offer is concluding.”

An exact reason for the change isn’t given, but it’s likely because there’s a need to generate more profit from the service. NBCUniversal no longer feels the need to provide Peacock Premium for free, and so that offer is coming to an end.

The justification for this change is likely tied to the expanded content library now available on the Premium tier.
