Silent Hill: The Short Message Appears on Another Ratings Board

Konami revealed an array of Silent Hill games at its recent showcase, but one title was noticeably absent. Something called Silent Hill: The Short Message had leaked beforehand, and while it still hasn’t been officially unveiled, it has appeared on yet another ratings board.

As picked up by Gematsu, a PlayStation 5 listing for Silent Hill: The Short Message popped up on the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee website. Google Translate notes that there is violence, horror, and inappropriate language and has a loose summary of its plot. It describes a main character trying to meet up with their friend before coming to an abandoned apartment and becoming trapped inside of it. The protagonist must then escape their own fears and “discover the truth” before “her own trauma consumes her will to survive.” A similar but less detailed listing also popped up on a Korean ratings board in September.

This newest description sounds a like one of the Silent Hill games in prior leaks. Insider Dusk Golem leaked images from a reported Silent Hill game in May 2022. The pictures were quickly copyright claimed, which he told Kotaku had “never happened before.” The images show a messy apartment or house that’s decorated with bunch of notes that have disparaging insults written on them. They’re also seemingly from an old 2020 build and the project probably “looks a bit different now.” However, that setting somewhat matches the description to the small image on the Taiwanese ratings board listing seen in the above screenshot.

Video Game Chronicle’s report after that leak said that these images are from a P.T.-style teaser that is codenamed Sakura. The preview is allegedly meant to come out for free to “build anticipation for the larger projects.” There’s also still reportedly a mainline entry in the works that didn’t seem to make its debut at the October showcase.

It’s possible that a small teaser for this game is on the way, as Konami has done this in the past with P.T. and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The PS5 listing also doesn’t mean it won’t come to other platforms if it does exist, but P.T. only made its way to PS4 and Silent Hill 2 Remake is a PS5 exclusive (and it might not come to Xbox systems at all).
