Radiohead’s Kid A Mnesia Exhibition Game Experience Gets a Release Date

Sony’s PlayStation Showcase in September 2021 had many unexpected games like Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine, but few of them were as unexpected as Radiohead’s Kid A Mnesia Exhibition. It was a peculiar trailer that stuck out among the robust lineup of AAA games. Not much was known about it, but players won’t have to wait much longer to figure it out as Epic Games announced its release date. The experience will be coming out on November 18 on PlayStation 5, PC, and Mac for free.

Kid A Mnesia Exhibition serves as a surreal, interactive experience featuring music and art from Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac albums that released in 2000 and 2001, respectively. Epic Games and Radiohead describe it as an “an upside-down digital/analogue universe,” which make more (or less?) sense after playing through it. This is somewhat of a companion piece to the album titled Kid A Mnesia that came out on November 5, 2021. It served as a reissue of those aforementioned albums and included unreleased material. Exhibition will also have the multitrack recordings and original art from their respective albums and will all be rebuilt “in a new controlled space without the limitations of stereo sound or LP/CD packaging.”

Kid A Mnesia Exhibition has been in development for two years and was originally going to be a physical experience that was supposed to travel around the world. But the world fell into a pandemic, making that a little more difficult. This, along with “laws of zoning and physics” pushed it into the digital realm. Thom Yorke, Stanley Donwood, and Nigel Godrich (the Radiohead half of the equation) collaborated with Creative Director Sean Evans, Theatre Set Designer Christine Jones, Interactive Producer Matthew Davis, his studio [namethemachine], and Arbitrarily Good Productions for the game.
