Cyberpunk 2077 & Witcher III Current-Gen Versions Delayed into 2022

Even though a roadmap and a recent rating implied otherwise, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher III: Wild Hunt are not coming out until 2022. These updated versions of Cyberpunk 2077 are now slated for Q1 2022 while the new ports of The Witcher III are scheduled for Q2 2022. No more specific dates were given.

Both were initially supposed to come out in 2021 until CD Projekt Red announced the delay through an investor call before posting it on Twitter. The team had previously shared a roadmap in January that listed the current-gen versions of Cyberpunk for 2021. Judging by the map, it looked as though it was scheduled to be released in the last few months of the year.

The Witcher III‘s current-gen upgrades were supposed to come out in the second half of 2021. However, CD Projekt Red said in September that it couldn’t make guarantees about either version of the game, which showed the developer was not confident it could hit its release windows.

Many have been waiting for these free upgrades, especially for Cyberpunk 2077. The game infamously launched in a sad state in December 2020 and was even pulled from the PlayStation Store soon after. It eventually came back six months later, but even Sony recommended playing the game on a PS5 through backwards compatibility or on a PS4 Pro. Even though all of the console versions were borderline unplayable, the PC version also had its share of bugs and glitches.

CD Projekt Red has spent the last 10 months patching the game and while it is in a better state, the native current-gen versions will likely be able to render a more detailed version of the world with collapsing in on themselves. The Witcher III‘s upgrade isn’t as dire since it came out in 2015 and wasn’t nearly as hobbled, but its new version will have visual improvements, better loading times, and items from the Netflix show.
