Captain Marvel’s Geneva Robertson-Dworet to Pen Artemis Adaptation

Captain Marvel and Tomb Raider screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet will be penning the adapted screenplay for Artemis, based on the book by Andy Weir (The Martian), The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Robertson-Dworet will also be working on the screenplays for the upcoming movies Dungeons & Dragons, Visionaries, and Silver & Black.

Directed by Phil Lord (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie, 22 Jump Street) and Chris Miller (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last Man on Earth), Artemis is a near-future thriller that follows directionless 20-something Jazz, chafing at the constraints of her small town, Artemis, which also happens to be the first and only city on the moon. A budding smuggler, Jazz unwittingly finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy for the control of her hometown.

The Amazon description for the book reads as follows:

“Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you’re not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you’ve got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down. But pulling off the impossible is just the start of her problems, as she learns that she’s stepped square into a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself—and that now, her only chance at survival lies in a gambit even riskier than the first.”

Artemis will be produced by Genre Films’ Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood, with Michael Schaefer overseeing for New Regency as Steve Asbell oversees for Fox, who picked up the project last May.
