Dying Light: Zombies, the Post Apocalypse & Parkour

Will Dying Light be more than an intriguing blend of urban crime, post apocalypse, zombie epidemic and… parkour adventure?

The upcoming action horror game from Warner Bros. sees the player “roam an urban environment devastated by a mysterious epidemic, scavenging for supplies and crafting weapons to help you defeat the hordes of mindless, flesh-hungry enemies the plague has created. At night, the hunter becomes the prey as the infected grow in strength and aggression – but even more lethal are the nocturnal, inhuman predators that leave their nests to feed. You will need to make use of all your skills and any available means to survive till dawn.”

I’m fascinated here. Two videos hit today, one a ‘story trailer,’ while the other presents Dying Light’s opening. The former is sweeping, sprawling; moving through the game’s elements (except kind of avoiding the zombies) with propulsion and cargo pants. I love that in this world, parkour is the most fun/best way to outrun criminals and cannibal corpses? Why does this fad/athletic movement endure?

Dying Light is out January 27, 2015
