What I Watched, What You Watched: Installment #125

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you out there. I have to get back to holiday treats, presents, football and basketball, so let’s get through this week’s What I Watched and enjoy a little bit of time away from the computer…

The Ides of March (2011)

This was only the second time I watched The Ides of March and while the one problem I have with this film remains (nope, not going to spoil it for those that haven’t seen it), I think I actually enjoyed this film much more than I did the first time around. It deserves a look for Best Cinematography (Phedon Papamichael), as I mentioned in my review from Toronto, and Ryan Gosling is great in it. I’m not sure where it will end up, but I may have another contender for my top ten of 2011.

Arthur Christmas (2011)

The fact this film has only made $42 million domestically is a bit upsetting, it deserves more. The fact it has made $17 million less than Happy Feet Two is even more upsetting. I am, however, happy to see it has made $72 million overseas so that’s something. I just wonder, what is it that is keeping American audiences away? This is a great holiday film, especially for kids and the family. I know my family enjoyed it.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

As I already mentioned in the Friday box-office report, I contributed to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘s Thursday tally, and while I won’t argue with anyone that has problems with this film, there is just something about it that I like. I can put my finger on a few things, as I did in my review, but there is an overall aura the film gives off that draws me in. It’s not a great film, but one I certainly enjoy.

And with that, I hope you have a happy holidays and please share what you watched this week below.
