The ‘Gaslight’ is Lit Again

I can’t be more happy for director Joe Wright as he has brought us the spectacular Pride and Prejudice and has now found his next project in a remake of the 1944 classic thriller Gaslight for Warner Bros.

Back in October I had a chance to sit and talk about P&P with Wright, and if this project was on the table he certainly didn’t mention it, but it seemed to be a director that had a keen desire to make films he truly cared about and believed in, which leads me to believe that this project will be a good one.

Gaslight is a film that won Ingrid Bergman an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her performance back in the early forties as Paula Anton, a woman slowly tormented by mysterious happenings in her luxurious Victorian home. The suspect is her devoted husband. But viewing the world through the dim glow of the gaslight, it is difficult to tell what is real and what is imagined. After luring her to a house of horrors, he methodically tries to convince her she is insane.

Yeah folks, some of the older flicks can be just as intriguing.

Abi Morgan will pen the remake.
