Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? Trailer Turns a Wedding Messy

Tyler Perry‘s Why Did I Get Married? returns with a new generation of complex relationships. A trailer was released for the third installment, introducing new characters to the 16-year-old franchise.

The synopsis reads, “In Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Again?,” the couples reunite in celebration as Marcus and Angela’s daughter prepares to tie the knot. After being apart for quite some time, they learn quickly that as much as things change, they stay the same. Realizing their children have grown up to be so much like them, they must reflect on the examples they’ve set and ask themselves that age-old question, why did they get married… again?”

What happens in the trailer for Why Did I Get Married Again?

The Why Did I Get Married Again? trailer opens with a toast from the children to their parents, calling them “the best examples” they could ever have. It is a ceremonious event as Marcus and Angela’s daughter is preparing to get married, bringing back the franchise’s central couples.

However, this reunion also stirs familiar relationship tensions. As the synopsis suggests, the new movie focuses primarily on the younger generation and their relationships, while the parents reflect on their own relationships and friendships, questioning whether they really are the best examples their children think they are.

This will be the third movie in the franchise directed by Tyler Perry. He wrote, directed, produced, and acted in the 2007, 2010, and now the 2026 comedy-dramas. Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Richard T. Jones, Jill Scott, and Lamman Rucker will also reprise their roles.

Taraji P. Henson is a new addition to the cast along with Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’Vinchi, Laya Deleon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush. Janet Jackson will not reprise her role as Patricia in the upcoming drama.

Angi Bones and Tony Strickland serve as producers alongside Perry, with Stefano Biraghi serving as the line producer. The previous two movies, Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too, are currently streaming on Netflix.

The third movie in the comedy-drama franchise will premiere on Netflix on September 9, 2026.
