Indiana Jones has made a glorious comeback after a nearly 40-year wait. The beloved franchise last witnessed a big release three years ago. It was the fifth movie in the series, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, featuring Harrison Ford.
What new Indiana Jones project has been announced?
The latest Indiana Jones announcement comes straight from the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel at the ongoing 2026 San Diego Comic-Con. After nearly 40 years, Indiana Jones is making a return to Marvel Comics later this year. It will arrive with a new comic book series, Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium.
The official description reads, “In the wake of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indy’s most notorious villains, including the impossible return of an archenemy, seek a terrifying new source of power to recoup their loss—one that’s fallen into the hands of his former companion, Marion Ravenwood. Now, Indiana Jones has to race to the far corners of the globe in search of a biblical weapon, embarking on an epic quest that will put both his archeology skills and skepticism of the supernatural to the ultimate test!”
While there have been Indy comics in the past few decades, it’s the first time that the adventurer has come back to Marvel since 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade #4.
The new Marvel comic will be a five-part series. It comes from acclaimed creators Jason Aaron and Aaron Kuder. The series will kick off a new era of Indy comics at the publisher. “I’ve wanted to adventure alongside Indiana Jones since I was 8 years old, to climb through ancient crypts and run for my life in exotic locales, to seek the world’s most fabled treasures. Now, here I am, feeling the same sort of joy I felt in 2015 when we launched Star Wars #1,” said writer Aaron.
“I’m very excited to be on this book with Jason Aaron. Indie has always felt like he should be a staple of a comic book character,” Kuder added.
The latest announcement follows the recent reveal of The Further Adventures Book I and Book II. These two new deluxe hardcovers will collect the fan-favorite character’s beloved 1980s Marvel Comics sagas. The hardcover editions will arrive in September 2026.
Marvel’s Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium will go on sale in December 2026.
