Following the release of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the first box office numbers are in, and Marvel might have a big hit in their hands. The film has already broken past the pre-sale numbers for Marvel’s recent films. The upcoming film will be Marvel Studios’ first Avengers film since 2019, and will lay the foundation for the future of the MCU.
How much money has Avengers: Doomsday already made at the box office?
A new report from Variety reveals that Avengers: Doomsday grossed $16.5 million in advance ticket sales. Disney opened ticket bookings for the film after debuting the trailer online. The report reveals that tickets were available across 1000 theaters and were restricted to Infinity Vision-certified screens. The film will be released in over 4000 theaters in North America when it arrives this December.
To meet overwhelming fan demand, exhibitors are already adding more showtimes, including those for Christmas. It should be noted that Disney won’t enjoy revenue from IMAX screens, which have all been reserved for Dune: Part 3 for three weeks.
Furthermore, the Variety report reveals that Doomsday’s pre-sales are twice as high as those of Deadpool and Wolverine, which went on to gross over $1.3 billion worldwide with an R-rating.
It remains to be seen how big Doomsday opens in its release weekend. For reference, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame opened at $357 million in North America. Deadpool and Wolverine grossed $211 million in its opening weekend. Endgame finished its run with a collective gross of over $2.7 billion worldwide, and is scheduled to be rereleased with new content later this September.
Marvel and Sony are also releasing Spider-Man: Brand New Day later in July, which is on track to gross between $180-190 million by conservative estimates. Avengers: Doomsday will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
Fans will get to see Avengers: Doomsday in theaters when it releases on December 18, 2026.
