Terminator 2: Judgment Day brings Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic action classic back to cinemas
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is coming back to U.S. theaters from August 28 to September 2, celebrating its 35th anniversary and in honor of T2’s Judgment Day on August 29. Earlier, the studios announced that the film would be released in 4K and RealD 3D using StudioCanal’s acclaimed restoration. Now, they have confirmed that viewers will also be able to watch James Cameron‘s groundbreaking sci-fi movie in 4DX and D-BOX formats.
For fans, this rerelease offers something they haven’t experienced before. The sharper 4K picture, immersive 3D, and motion-based theater formats make many of its iconic scenes feel bigger and more intense than ever.
Originally released in 1991, Terminator 2: Judgment Day follows a reprogrammed Terminator (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) who is sent back in time to save young John Connor, the future leader of humanity’s resistance against machines. Together, they must stop the deadly shape-shifting T-1000 before it can change the future and trigger Judgment Day.
Schwarzenegger reprises his role as the Terminator in the second installment. The film also stars Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, Edward Furlong as John Connor, and Robert Patrick as the T-1000. In addition to directing and producing the film, James Cameron co-wrote the screenplay with William Wisher.
The film was both a critical and commercial success. At the time of writing, it holds a 90% Tomatometer score and a 95% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. At the global box office, the film grossed more than $517 million against a budget of $100 million, making it one of the most influential action movies ever made. T2 is widely regarded as one of the greatest sci-fi action films and one of the greatest sequels ever made. It also won four Academy Awards for Visual Effects, Makeup, Sound, and Sound Effects Editing.
Presented by StudioCanal, Fathom Entertainment, and Rialto Pictures, the film will play in theaters from August 28 to September 2. Tickets are available now through Fathom Entertainment and participating theater box offices.
