What do we see in The Dog Stars trailer?
The new trailer opens with Hig traveling alongside his dog, Jasper, as he reflects on the normal life he had before “the world ended.” Footage of a destroyed Denver City Hall, surrounded by several wild dogs, is shown. Bangley joins Hig, and they both fight against and evade the “survivors,” who seem to have regressed to a tribalistic state. A thrilling night-vision sequence shows Bangley fighting off the survivors while covering for Hig. The trailer then takes a mysterious turn when Hig hears a radio transmission that leads him to Cima (Margaret Qualley), and the two quickly begin to bond.
Cima is also shown wielding a sniper rifle as she takes down several survivors. The final scene of the trailer shows Hig and Cima getting aboard a small plane while evading the enemies. In the run-up to the film’s release, Ridley Scott has called it his “best movie” since The Martian.
Besides Elordi and Brolin, the film stars Margaret Qualley, Allison Janney, Benedict Wong, and Guy Pearce. Mark L. Smith wrote the screenplay. The Dog Stars is produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, Mark L. Smith, and Cliff Roberts. Lily Brooks-Dalton, Brandon Scott Smith, Peter Heller, and Aidan Elliott serve as executive producers.
Distributed by 20th Century Studios, The Dog Stars is reportedly made on a budget of $110 million. The film will be released exclusively in theaters on August 28, 2026.
