DC’s Jimmy Olsen spinoff just found the perfect actor to bring one of its most iconic villains to life. The Superman series taps a surprising comedy star for a role that could redefine a classic DC character.
Jimmy Tatro is reportedly in talks to join DC Crime as Gorilla Grodd
Jimmy Tatro is in talks to join the live-action Superman spinoff series DC Crime, Deadline reported. The actor is circling the role of Gorilla Grodd in the Jimmy Olsen series. Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider first reported the casting development.
The series has not yet received an official greenlight from HBO Max. Meanwhile, DC describes Gorilla Grodd as a hyper-intelligent telepathic ape. The character has “sought to rule both the simian and human worlds, though the Flash has frequently thwarted his plans.” DC Crime takes the format of a true-crime docuseries hosted by Jimmy Olsen. Notably, Skyler Gisondo plays the character in James Gunn’s summer blockbuster Superman. Season 1 will reportedly center around Gorilla Grodd, who often battles The Flash.
Originally, Grodd gained psychic powers after encountering an alien spaceship in the comics. Creators first introduced the character in 1959. He also appeared in the former DC Arrow-verse television franchise. Additionally, Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault created the series for DC Studios. The duo previously created Netflix’s American Vandal, a true-crime satire that ran from 2017 to 2018. They will write, executive produce and showrun DC Crime.
Furthermore, DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran serve as executive producers. Galen Vaisman oversees production on the project. Warner Bros. Television is also producing the series alongside DC Studios.
Tatro most recently appeared in Scream 7 from director Kevin Williamson and Paramount Pictures. His other credits include Netflix’s American Vandal and the streaming series The Real Bros of Simi Valley. He also appeared in ABC’s Modern Family and Home Economics. HBO Max and DC Studios both declined to comment on the casting reports.
