DC Studios has shared a significant update on one of its upcoming television projects set within the new DCU. Nearly three years after the Mister Terrific series was first reported to be in development, the project has taken a major step forward with a writer now attached.
Mister Terrific is in active development, writer unveiled
DC Studios has reportedly found the writer for its planned Mister Terrific television series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Allan Heinberg has been selected to write the pilot, making him the first creative team member officially attached to the project. While the series has not yet been formally ordered, the latest update confirms that development is actively underway.
The project is expected to focus on Michael Holt, also known as Mister Terrific, with Edi Gathegi reprising the role after making his DCU debut in Superman. Gathegi’s portrayal of the gifted superhero quickly made headlines for being one of the film’s standout performances. This prompted speculation that the character could return in a larger capacity within DC Studios’ upcoming projects.
Heinberg has decades of experience across television, film, and comic books. His television work includes Sex and the City, The OC, and Grey’s Anatomy, while he most recently served as a writer and executive producer on Netflix’s The Sandman. He also wrote the screenplay for 2017’s Wonder Woman and has written Wonder Woman and Justice League comics for DC. Outside DC, Heinberg co-created Marvel’s Young Avengers alongside artist Jim Cheung.
The news comes as Supergirl, the latest theatrical release from the new DC Universe, continues its box office run. Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock in the title role, the film was released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
DC Studios has not announced a release platform or production timeline for the Mister Terrific series. The project has also not received an official series order, and details about the cast, directors, and episode count remain under wraps.
