All Critics Aren’t Loving Jennifer Lopez’s R-Rated Netflix Movie

Jennifer Lopez’s latest Netflix comedy is drawing a mixed response from critics. While some enjoyed its charm, many felt the movie falls short of rom-com expectations. The new release pairs Lopez with Brett Goldstein in a workplace romance filled with secrets, awkward situations, and adult humor. However, early reviews suggest the film is struggling to win over critics despite its recognizable cast and familiar genre appeal.

Office Romance reviews are in

Instead of universal praise, Office Romance has landed somewhere in the middle of the critical conversation. Several reviewers highlighted the chemistry between Lopez and Goldstein as the movie’s biggest strength, even when other parts failed to impress.

Ema Sasic of Next Best Picture wrote that watching the two leads together is “worth the price of admission (or subscription) alone.” Similarly, Alex Harrison of ScreenRant said he spent much of the movie with “a giddy smile,” despite acknowledging some flaws.

Not everyone was convinced. Monica Castillo of The A.V. Club argued that the romance never feels fully convincing and said the comedy struggles even more. She criticized the film for relying on “uncomfortable oversharing” rather than genuine laughs. Pete Hammond of Deadline also found the script too dependent on familiar rom-com formulas, saying it rarely brings anything fresh to the table.

Even among the mixed reactions, some critics found reasons to recommend it. David Ehrlich of IndieWire suggested the film reflects Lopez’s continued determination to shape her career on her own terms. Meanwhile, Stephanie Zacharek of Time credited Goldstein’s charisma for helping the movie work, noting that he stands comfortably alongside Lopez and also co-wrote the screenplay.

Office Romance gets bad Rotten Tomatoes score

The critical divide is reflected in the movie’s Rotten Tomatoes rating. At the time of writing, the film holds a 54% Tomatometer score, placing it just below the fresh threshold.

The story follows two work-obsessed professionals whose secret office relationship begins to complicate both their careers and personal lives. Alongside Lopez and Goldstein, the cast includes Betty Gilpin, Jackie Sandler, Jodie Whittaker, Bradley Whitford, and Will Sasso, among many others.
