Criminal Minds Season 18 Ending & the Disciple’s Identity Explained

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 18 (or Season 3 of the reboot) finale, titled “The Disciple,” pulled back the curtain on the identity mystery, redefined Elias Voit’s arc, and introduced a chilling new villain. Here’s a breakdown.

Who is the Disciple in Criminal Minds Season 18 ending?

The Disciple isn’t just another shadowy figure in Voit’s network. She is Tessa Lebrun, a deeply scarred woman whose name only surfaced one episode before the finale.

But who is she really? Tessa’s real name is Constance Teresa Merrick. In 2002, she vanished while studying in North Carolina after being kidnapped and held captive by Cyrus Lebrun, Voit’s own brutal mentor. Groomed and tortured for years, she eventually began calling herself his daughter to fill the emotional void Cyrus felt after Voit abandoned him.

Voit had no idea Tessa existed. However, she knew everything about him, obsessively so. When Voit returned to kill Cyrus in 2022, Tessa overheard the entire confrontation from the shadows of the same house. That moment did not free her. It gave her purpose.

What does Tessa Lebrun want in Criminal Minds Season 18?

Tessa did not just want revenge. She wanted control. After infiltrating Voit’s murderous network through his late lawyer Vincent Orlov, she crowned herself “The Disciple” and launched her own reign of terror.

But her real goal was to bring Voit back to his violent roots and rule the network with him. That meant removing his newfound conscience, or rather, testing it. Knowing he had bonded with Dr. Julia Ochoa, Tessa staged a horrific attempt on Ochoa’s life using one of Voit’s signature methods: a venomous Sicarius spider.

It appeared to work. Voit snapped and beat the attacker to death. When Tessa asked how he felt, he replied, “Like a f—ing god.” However, Voit was playing her. He had told Ochoa to play dead and fed the BAU just enough intel to dismantle Tessa’s operation. When they stormed the hideout, Tessa realized too late that Voit had never been hers to control. “This is where you and I end,” he told her before she was arrested after a failed last stand against Prentiss.
