Real Steel 2: Is The Trailer Real or Fake? Are Hugh Jackman & Dakota Goyo Returning?

Fans of the original have wished for Real Steel 2 to happen for over a decade. The 2011 robot boxing film crafted a world that could easily be expanded on. So, after a recent viral teaser trailer of the sequel, fans want to know if it is real or not. Is Hugh Jackman returning alongside Dakota Goyo? Here’s all you need to know.

Is the Real Steel 2 teaser trailer real or fake?

The Real Steel 2 teaser trailer that’s gaining views on YouTube is not real. It is a fan-made compilation of footage involving Hugh Jackman from his past movies.

The YouTube channel Foxstar Media released the above fan-made teaser trailer for Real Steel 2 a short while ago. The channel is known for its fan-made trailers and the teaser is yet another one of those. So unfortunately for fans who want a sequel, it isn’t happening anytime soon as the trailer doesn’t come from an official source.

Will Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo return for Real Steel 2?

No, Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo are not slated to return for Real Steel 2.

After the critical and financial success of Real Steel, there were talks of a potential sequel. But it never manifested into reality. Dakota Goyo, who played Max Kenton in the original, has retired from acting. Hugh Jackman is currently involved with Deadpool 3, which is also being directed by Real Steel director Shawn Levy. But currently, there are no plans in motion for another movie in the Real Steel universe.

In an interview with Inverse, Real Steel actor Anthony Mackie stated that he initially pushed for a sequel to happen and believes that the franchise could even get a spinoff exploring the underground boxing circuit shown in the first film.

However, director Shawn Levy told Collider in 2022 that Real Steel 2 never happened because he didn’t think it could top the first one. He said:

“I really try to not make sequels that don’t deserve to be. And it’s why I didn’t move forward with the Real Steel sequel because I didn’t feel we had a second movie that could match or top the first.”

So, with the difficulty of getting the right story and the original cast back together, the chances of a Real Steel sequel continue to be slim.
