SAG-AFTRA & AMPTP to Resume Strike Talks This Week

After a bit of a lull, SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will be meeting this week to resume negotiations involving the ongoing strike.

The guild made a thread of posts on Twitter on Saturday to mark the 100th day of the strike, which began in July. The tweets announced that negotiations will resume on Tuesday, October 24 and warned that the coming days will bring “a lot of interest and potentially noise surrounding our talks,” noting that those watching should “not believe anything you hear until it comes from us.”

“SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will meet for bargaining on Tuesday, October 24 at SAG-AFTRA Plaza. Several executives from AMPTP member companies will be in attendance,” a statement from SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP reads (via Deadline).

Why did SAG-AFTRA & AMPTP strike talks break down earlier?

Talks between the union and the AMPTP apparently broke down a bit over a week ago and were suspended. According to reports on the matter, talks broke down after the AMPTP declined SAG-AFTRA’s proposals to share 2% of streaming revenue. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos acknowledged the reports by noting that the move was a “bridge too far” for the union.
