Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, a former member of The Elite, has been absent from in-ring action for months. Omega, who had been dealing with diverticulitis, has been out of action since December. His last match in AEW was against Ethan Page, now the NXT Champion in WWE.
Although Kenny Omega had been sidelined, he made his return to AEW a few months ago. On the May 1 edition of Dynamite, Omega returned and was confronted by Kazuchika Okada. However, Omega was attacked by Jack Perry and The Young Bucks, who delivered an EVP Trigger. Following this assault, Kenny Omega needed to be stretchered out of the arena.
Although Kenny Omega has been physically active, he remains unable to compete and is scheduled for surgery. Speculation suggests he might return by the end of the year. In the meantime, Kota Ibushi, Omega’s former NJPW tag team partner, recently provided an update on his own status with the promotion.
Ibushi last appeared on AEW TV on the November 15, 2023, episode of Dynamite. Despite his absence from All Elite Wrestling, he plans to return to the promotion and aims to come back alongside Omega.
Kota Ibushi plans to return with Kenny Omega
Kota Ibushi made his AEW debut last year during the Blood & Guts match between The Elite and Blackpool Combat Club, alongside Konosuke Takeshita and Pac. The Elite, short one member in the match, were aided by Ibushi. He played a crucial role in their victory over their opponents.
Since then, Ibushi has made several appearances in AEW but has been absent from the promotion since last November. Recently, he announced that he will compete at the August 25 DDT Pro Wrestling event. Ibushi clarified that AEW granted him permission to participate and affirmed that the promotion is his home. He also stated on X (formerly Twitter) that he plans to make a return with his former tag team partner Kenny Omega.
Omega and Ibushi, known as the Golden Lovers, have delivered standout matches. It will be intriguing to see what plans Tony Khan has for them once Omega returns.
