CM Punk’s road to recovery took center stage last week as he addressed fans on Monday Night RAW, revealing a torn triceps injury from the Royal Rumble match, forcing him to miss WrestleMania 40. Punk underwent surgery on February 1 and has been spotted at the WWE Performance Center, lending his expertise.
Speculation surfaced regarding Punk’s next move when Ace Steel suggested WWE’s consideration of him joining the commentary team. In a recent episode of the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Punk’s associate Ace Steel mentioned WWE’s interest in having Punk as a commentator. Steel stated, “Definitely, they want him commentary, they want him on commentary. I don’t know that they go that route since they did an injury angle to pull him out since they did the storyline on him; [Drew] stomps on his arm. There’s the physicality that puts him out. I personally don’t want to see him in an onscreen role unless it’s in the meantime he’s doing NXT or something. I really don’t want to see him on the same show as Drew Mcintyre because his sole focus would be going after Drew Mcintyre. “Well, I can’t fight you. Well, I’m gonna try.”
He continued by saying, “We see people hit by cars and forktrucks and all these things, you know. Still, I feel like the fact that they did the injury that a lot of people think they, they put the storyline to it now that a lot of people think it’s, he’s faking it, which is hilarious that it’s a storyline 100% which of course it’s wrestling. So, you’ve done so many of those, like, oh, well, let’s do this where he hurts guys.”
It will be intriguing to see if Punk returns as a commentator and which brand he will join. Fans may recall his brief commentary stint in 2010, cut short when he joined The Nexus after attacking John Cena.
Top WWE superstar replaces CM Punk after injury
CM Punk sustained a torn triceps injury during the Men’s Royal Rumble match, forcing him out of action for several months, including WrestleMania 40. This led to a top WWE star, Becky Lynch, stepping in to take his place. Meanwhile, within two weeks, WWE will host the Elimination Chamber in Australia on February 24. Originally scheduled to be held in Perth, CM Punk’s absence resulted in his removal from the lineup.
WWE updated the event poster, replacing Punk with Becky Lynch. Lynch joins LA Knight, Logan Paul, Bianca Belair, Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, and Seth Rollins on the new poster.
