Andrew Kreisberg teases what’s to come for the new Flash season two characters

We’ve got less than a month to go before The CW‘s scarlet speedster races back onto the small screen and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg today chatted with EW to whet fans’ appetites regarding the new The Flash season two characters. Meanwhile, the returning Danielle Panabaker is the subject of a new behind-the-scenes interview wherein she discusses what’s to come for Caitlin Snow. “There’s a little condescension from Jay,” says Kreisberg of “Golden Age” Flash Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears), already featured prominently in the season two advertising. “Jay is a little bit more world-weary and he’s seen a lot. He’s been The Flash for a while, so he’s a little further along in his career. He’s seen a lot of darkness, and it’s jaded him a little bit. He thinks Barry can be a bit naïve about the way the world works… [but] as much as Barry learns from Jay about being The Flash, Jay learns just as much about being a good person from Barry.”

Also a new Flash season two character is Shantel VanSanten’s Patty Spivot.

“She’s got a very specific reason for wanting to fight metahumans,” says Kreisberg, “which we’ll learn about during the course of the season. She’s a science nerd, too. She really loves the science aspect of it, and she and Barry really bond on that level, but she also loves the action… One of the cool things about Patty is it’s one thing to take on bank robbers, it’s another to take on someone who can turn into poison gas, or another guy who can control the weather.”

Then there’s “Kid Flash” Wally West, who will played by Keiynan Lonsdale.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if one day Wally West becomes Kid Flash,” Kreisberg teases.

Finally, there’s Zoom as the new Big Bad with Tony Todd set to voice the comic book super villain.

“Reverse Flash felt like a warrior, and what we wanted this time was something more akin to a monster,” says Kreisberg. “When you finally see Zoom, he looks like a demon, and it’s really scary. It’s more horrific… Like with Wells last year, he has a very specific agenda and a very specific and very clean reason for doing what he’s doing. When we open the season, he’s a villain of Earth-Two, and now he has access to Earth-One. Yet again, our team has created their own nemeses for the season. Watching how Zoom enacts his plan is the plot of the first nine episodes.”

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon and Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West. The new season will see the addition of newcomers Violett Beane as the female speedster Jesse Quick, Demore Barnes as Tokamak, and Candyman himself Tony Todd as the voice of the new “big bad,” Zoom. The Flash is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, David Nutter and Sarah Schechter.

The Flash will premiere its second season on Tuesday, October 6 at 8 p.m. EST.
