Who has joined the cast of Hulu’s Jim Carrey remake TV show?
Deadline reports that Natasha Rothwell has joined Hulu’s untitled The Cable Guy pilot. The White Lotus star will reprise her role as Gina, the sister of Steven Stephens, played by Damon Wayans Jr.
As per the official logline, the series follows a cable technician named Chip Douglas (played by Jake Johnson). In the streaming era, he leads an isolated life until Steven reconnects with him by asking to turn on his cable again. This encounter catalyzes a new chapter in their lives. Chip finds someone who has been missing from his life, but his infatuation with Steven turns into obsession.
Rothwell’s character, Gina, is portrayed as an oddball with a sharp sense of humor. She is depicted as living at her parents’ house, recovering from an injury, and plays a vital role in Steven’s life.
Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson are also executive producers of the project. Luan Thomas, Rob Rosell and Joe Piarulli are the co-showrunners and co-wrote the pilot. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty are executive producers. Sony Pictures Television produces the series.
Rothwell portrays Belinda Lindsey in the HBO series The White Lotus. She has received two Emmy nominations for her performance and will reprise the role in the third season. Additionally, Rothwell created, executive produced, and starred in the Hulu comedy series How to Die Alone.
The original The Cable Guy starred Jim Carrey as eccentric Chip Douglas. It featured Matthew Broderick in the leading role. The film was directed by Ben Stiller and became a cult hit, thanks to Jim Carrey’s performance.
Hulu has yet to announce when the series will debut. Since the cast is already being put together, The Cable Guy reboot is getting closer to production every day.
